Salicylic Acid is a Beta Hydroxy Acid. Salicylic Acid is very commonly used for treatment of acne and especially gives very good results with whiteheads and blackheads. Let us understand about how Salicylic Acid treats acne, how to use it and what are the precautions that need to be taken.

Salicylic Acid dissolves the protein that binds the dead cells of the skin together. By dissolving the cement that binds the dead cells, Salicylic acid makes it easy to slough off the dead skin layer. This accelerates the production of fresh skin cells. That is why salicylic Acid is popularly used in skin care. In acne treatment, Salicylic Acid unclogs the pores or the openings of the sebaceous glands by removing the dead skin cells that prevent the sebum to come out. It enters the glands easily as it is oil soluble and removes the dead cells and sebum from there. This property is used to treaty blackheads and whiteheads with Salicylic Acid.

Salicylic Acid is available in practically all forms such as creams, gels, lotions, pads etc. It may cause irritation of the skin and should therefore not be used with other products such as Benzoyl Peroxide, Azelaic Acid, Retinoids, Alcohol and other materials that also cause skin dryness and irritation. Salicylic Acid also makes skin sensitive to the sun. Sunscreen should therefore be used while applying Salicylic Acid.

Salicylic Acid may be absorbed through the mother’s skin. It has yet not been studied in pregnant women. Studies in animals indicate that salicylic acid causes birth defects when given in higher doses orally. Therefore before you use Salicylic Acid, inform your doctor if you are pregnant or if you may become pregnant. Salicylic acid may be absorbed through the skin. Though topical salicylic acid has not been reported to cause any problem in nursing babies, you must discuss the risks and benefits of the Salicylic Acid with your doctor if you are a nursing mother.

BACK Acne

Body Acne

Acne is a common skin problem affecting people from young teenagers to adults. It is, in fact, a bacteria (propionibacterium acnes) that grows in a follicle. Consequently, any product that can kill the bacteria will be effective. (More on this later)

Characteristics of acne include red lesions that may have a yellowish “head” known as whiteheads. Other common types may also include blackheads, papules and pustules. It can appear all over the body and is very common on the back, chest, shoulders and the buttocks. Irritation of the skin can make acne worse so it’s best not to scratch the area of your body where the acne is present. Additionally, other irritants such as tight fitting clothing, and accessories that may aggravate your skin may contribute to a worsening of your acne.

There are many different cures and applications that can ease the problem and for mild cases, the use of an over the counter product that includes benzoyl peroxide will certainly do the job on mild cases. However, for more serious cases you will need to use as much as it takes in order to rid your skin of the problem. Benzoyl peroxide actually kills the bacteria and this is the reason why it is such an effective product. Another plus for this product is that your skin will not develop a tolerance for it, unlike some other antibiotic products. A word of caution though - a low percentage of people are allergic to benzoyl peroxide, so before using it, just test a small area of your skin just in case. It can also bleach clothing so avoid contact with your clothes.

Tip: A 2.5% cream will work just as well as a 10% solution which can also cause over drying of your skin.

Cleansing It is very important to understand that treating acne starts with very gentle and non invasive cleansing of the area affected. Harsh scrubbing will only serve to irritate the area and cause more acne problems for you. Look for a cleanser that doesn’t overly dry out your skin. For your face avoid using soap.

Moisturising To avoid overly drying out your skin, particularly on your face, you must moisturize every day. This will keep your skin in good order and will combat the initial drying and reddening of your skin from the use of benzoyl peroxide. A moisturizer that has a low dose of lactic acid in it will be useful to stopping the flakiness that can occur with overly dry skin.

Tip: If you happen to have a very severe case of acne then you should make an appointment to see a dermatologist. They can set you up on a program designed to treat your condition.
About the Author

With so many acne treatment lotions and creams all over the market it would seem logical that acne sufferers would have the solution to the problem solved. But the truth is that the percentage of the lotions in the market that actually produce results are really small.

There are many reasons for this, but the main reason is that most of the acne treatment solutions in the market all use a cookie cutter approach to finding solutions for acne sufferers. The vast majority of these acne treatment solutions produced all use one general formula for their creams and lotions. The problem is that not all acne sufferers suffer from the same acne causes.

The cause of acne is different and varied for each individual. For some acne could be a result of poor diet, for some others it might be due to excessive oil secretions from the sebaceous glands, yet for others acne might be hormonal. For all these forms of acne the treatment should be different. But using the cookie cutter approach of most companies all these forms of acne would be treated the same way. What this means is that the person who suffers from acne due to poor diet who should be treated with a vitamin based, vitamin A in this case, cream would be treated with the same solution for someone with hormonal based acne which should be treated with supplements and internal cleansing.

Most acne would be cured by matching the right individual with the right cause and matching that to the right treatment. With this method acne sufferers would have the solutions to their problems in a short time, but this is rarely the case. These are a few general tips about the root causes of acne in individuals.

For ladies who wear foundation makeup, be sure to check the ingredients of your makeup. It may be oil based and be the culprit in your case of acne. It is best if you know your makeup is heavily oil based to switch to water based cosmetics which allow your skin to breathe easier. Alternatively you might consider using less or light makeup or go without foundation makeup all together to see if this reduces your acne.

One very simple acne routine is to make sure that you at least wash your face twice daily. The secret to this method is using very mild soap, maybe soap for babies, or using pure glycerin. These are both mild and will not aggravate your skin like other harsh soaps will.

You can also try benzyl peroxide. This is one of the oldest acne solutions in the market. Its? secret is oxygen. Oxygen works by destroying bacteria which lies deep within the pores and under the skin surface.

Lastly, use a mixture of distilled water and sea salt in washing your face. After washing your face with these rub some lemon juice in and then wash with mild soap baby soap or pure glycerin.

For older individuals the problem might be due to factors other than those outlined here. The best solution in this case and any other type of acne would be to get the help of a professional dermatologist or nutritionist.

Acne and the attendant stress it creates can lead to emotional problems. Teenagers should do well to remember that while it is good to seek solutions to the problem, it is all part of the growing process from childhood into adulthood. It is advisable to use as mild a treatment as possible so as not to cause damage to your tender skin from using harsh treatments which can have lasting implications on your face and skin.

Acne is fast becoming a common occurence in both teenagers and grown-ups. People often think of acne which occurs on the face because that is where it is commonly noticed. However, as many acne sufferers know, the face is not only the area where acne can develop.

Other areas where acne can occur are the chest and the back. Unfortunately, chest and back acne are often harder to treat compared to those on the face. This means that products that one usually uses to treat facial acne might not be as effective as acne on the chest and on the back. Further, since the back is always in contact with the clothes (and other materials which could irritate the skin), this could worsen the condition of the acne further.

 BACK Acne 3

Treating back acne is similar to how one would treat facial acne. For example, one has to stick to a daily skin regimen for treatment, consisting of cleanser and moisturizer. However, applying medication on back acne could be more difficult compared to facial acne.

The clothes that you wear could be worsening your back acne condition. For example, tight or rough clothing rubs against the skin on your back and cause skin irritation. Also, the sweat from the tight clothes could cause excessive oil production by the skin. This eventually results in acne breakouts on the back.

In addition to clothes, we could also figure out the other things that could be causing back acne. For example, heavy backpacks that are worn across the shoulders and the upper back could aggravate back acne conditions. If you have acne on the areas in the shoulders and the upper back, you should consider stop using a backpack. A good alternative would be a shoulder bag. Once your back acne clears up, you could then use the backpack again.

The first step to treat back acne is to determine the severity of the acne’s condition so that the appropriate treatment could be given. The degree of ’seriousness’ of back acne could be characterized into three types - mild, moderate or severe. Additionally, one should also determine the type of skin - oily, dry or combination of both. This is important because different skin types show different reaction to acne medication.

Acne is inflamed because of infection by bacteria P. acnes. This bacterium infects the sebum and rapidly multiplies inside the gland. With infection, the gland gets inflamed and the infection spreads to dermis and the cells deeper in the skin. If this is left unchecked, the acne ruptures after damaging the deeper skin cells and cause scars. To stop this antibiotics are a great help.

 How antibiotics work-

Antibiotics work by selectively killing the bacteria. They do not cause damage to the cells of the body. By killing the bacteria antibiotics reduce the infection and inflammation. Oral antibiotics are the fastest way to treat such infections. The common antibiotics used for this are- Erythromycin, Tetracycline, Minocycline, Doxycycline , Clindamycin and others. Let us discuss about them.

Erythromycin-

This is a broad spectrum antibiotic. It is available in capsule, tablet, long-acting capsule, long-acting tablet forms. It is commonly prescribed to be taken two to three times a day for seven or more days. The strength and the dosage duration depend upon the severity of the infection. It can be used in pregnancy. It not only reduces infection but also reduces inflammation. Generally it is taken along with or after food. Erythromycin may cause diarrhea, upset stomach, vomiting etc. If such side effects persist, you need to consult with your doctor.

Tetracycline

This is another antibiotic that is very commonly used to treat acne. Tetracycline is commonly available as a capsule. The strength and the dosage duration depend upon the severity of the infection. Tetracycline cannot be taken during pregnancy. It should be taken on empty stomach and should not be taken with any milk products. It can cause side effects such as- sore mouth, skin redness, diarrhea, upset stomach etc.

Minocycline

Minocycline belongs to the class of medications known as tetracycline antibiotics. Minocycline is commonly available as a capsule or a tablet. The strength and the dosage duration depend upon the severity of the infection. Tetracycline cannot be taken during pregnancy. It should be taken on empty stomach and should not be taken with any milk products. It can cause side effects such as- sore mouth, skin redness, diarrhea, ringing in ears etc.

Doxycycline

Doxycycline also belongs to the class of medications known as tetracycline antibiotics. It is available as capsule or tablets. If you feel nausea with Doxyclince, take it with food or milk. The strength and the dosage duration depend upon the severity of the infection. Doxyclcline may cause dry mouth, diarrhea and sunburns.

Clindamycin

Clindamycin is used as an antibiotic for acne but because it may cause colitis, it is commonly used in topical form. If your doctor has prescribed Clindamycin oral, discuss the side effects in detail.

If you suffer from acne and have tried all the topical creams and antibiotics but still have not eradicated your acne then its time to take [...]

If you suffer from acne and have tried all the topical creams and antibiotics but still have not eradicated your acne then its time to take a look at some home grown natural acne cures. And indeed when it comes to finding home made cures for acne, it seems that there are many of them! You just need to be prepared for a bit of experimentation first and have the patience to wait a while before your acne clears. Remember, using home made cures means there are no chemicals or harsh substances, so it is likely that your acne won’t be “zapped” within days or weeks.

Also note that most home made treatments for acne are applied topically and are not for consumption. Usually, the treatments vary between face washes, astringent toners and face masks and exfoliants which help slough off dead skin cells.

The other benefit of these treatments is that the side effects are very few, if any at all, due to the products being natural and therefore not toxic.

Just to get you started, here are a few examples. This is an effective treatment for blackheads: use a mixture of lime and milk as a face wash. First bring the milk to a boil and then add the juice from one lime. Mix thoroughly and when cool use it as a face wash. Another natural acne cure is to use mangos on your face. Soak the mango overnight then peel the skin off and boil the mango in hot water. Once cool, rub it on your face - it will cleanse your pores thoroughly.

Papaya fruit is a favourite and here you would use it raw (instead of boiling it). Mash up the pulp and use it as a face wash, thoroughly massage it into damp skin then wash off with clean water. Something not as exotic but more likely to appear in your larder is the good old potato. Believe it or not but a raw potato is an ideal acne natural cure and extremely effective for treating whiteheads. Raw potatoes contain sulphur, potassium, phosphurus and protein. The vitamin C content along with the natural starch and enzymes are a great source of “food” for skin. Ideally, you would grate or shred a raw potato then apply it as a face mask. It is excellent for clearing blemishes and aids in the prevention of pimples, whiteheads and blackheads. The acid in the potato scrubs away dead skin cells and is an excellent exfoliant too. And talking of exfoliating products, many homemade scrubs and face masks contain oatmeal which, due to its large particles, is really good to use when removing dead or dry skin cells that clog up pores.

Honey is a popular favourite to use at home - usually just to pep up the skin and give it a good healthy glow. Ideally, you would apply a liberal layer of honey on your cleansed face and wash it off once it has dried. You can add a few drops of lemon to it if you wish.

Turmeric, the amber yellow powder normally used as a spice in Indian cookery, has many beneficial properties and is recommended for many other ailments other than acne. Traditionally, a little bit (about 1/4 teaspoon) of turmeric powder, mixed with a few drops of lemon juice, 2 tablespoons of chickpea powder (another product used in Indian cookery) and about 2 tablespoons of plain yoghurt is an excellent paste for rubbing into the skin. Leave this on for about 1 minute then wash off. This gives the skin an instant glow and leaves it feeling clean and refreshed. The same paste mixture can be used on the face as a deep cleansing face mask. Leave on for about 10 minutes until it dries. Then rub it off, this rubbing action will stimulate the skin and also aid in sloughing off dead skin cells. Now wash off with cold water. This is one of the best kept indian beauty secrets.

You can try and experiment for yourself until you find something that feels just right for you. The turmeric and chickpea paste might be too drying for you, so perhaps you can try honey (with or without lemon juice). That’s the beauty of homemade treatments; they can be tailor made to your exact taste.

So you see that what you find in your refrigerator, larder or spice rack is not just something that you can use for cooking. In fact, with a little imagination, you’ll find you have effective homemade acne treatments right under your nose.
About the Author

BACK Acne

For some people, getting back acne is not as bad as getting facial acne.It is bad enough when you suffer from acne on your face, but what about back acne. After all, skin imperfections on one’s back are easier to hide under a layer of clothing - unless he or she has to wear a swimsuit to spend time at the beach or pool. In such cases, back acne can cause feelings of self-consciousness; no matter how attractive a person’s body is, having zits or pimples on one’s back can be disconcerting, not to mention uncomfortable.

The causes of back acne - or “bacne” - are pretty much similar to what causes pimples to emerge on other parts of the body. The back is filled with sebaceous glands, which secrete a kind of oil called sebum. If excessive amounts of this oil are produced and not removed immediately, the pores and the hair follicles on a person’s back will become clogged, which then encourages bacteria to attack and inflame skin tissue. Back acne is the result of this. Chest and back acne is more prevalent in males. Back acne is sometimes more difficult to treat because some of the lesions can become deep and inflamed.

It is then very important to make sure that one’s back is kept clean and free of dead cells in order to prevent back acne. Regular bathing and exfoliation is important. It is also advisable to keep the skin free from perspiration; wiping one’s back dry after strenuous activity or changing a sweat-soaked shirt as soon as possible would discourage pimples on the back from forming.

Anecdotal evidence suggests that the pressure and chafing that results from wearing tight clothing or carrying heavy backpacks can contribute to back acne. Perhaps it would be best then to wear looser-fitting clothes at least some of the time, or try alternating the use of backpacks with other types of bags - those that do not put weight or pressure on the back. A person does not have to totally give up wearing tight clothes or using backpacks; he or she just has to learn to balance them with the use of other objects to minimize the risk of getting back acne.

Mild cases of bacne can be treated with over-the-counter medications and other skin care formulations. Some of these medications contain benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. Those interested in natural back acne remedies may try using soaps, creams, and ointments that contain ingredients such as tea tree oil, neem, and basil. Another thing that might be able to help treat the back acne is a mixture of lye soap ad tea tree oil. These herb extracts are beneficial for those suffering from nearly all types of acne because they have anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and antibacterial properties. In addition to helping treat pimples, they can also restore the skin’s suppleness and smoothness.

More severe cases of back acne, or infected pimples that have developed into pustules or cysts, will require the specialized care of a dermatologist or other skin specialists. If the back acne is stubborn in nature, a doctor may may prescribe for you an oral prescription of antibiotics like tetracycline or minocycline. Left untreated, these blemishes will develop into deep and unsightly scars that may be permanent. Taking measures to prevent and treat back acne is always in your best interest; your skin will look and feel good, and your back will thank you for it.
About the Author

Traditional medicine that is given to improve Acne condition may have side effects on us. That may be the reason why some people may prefer natural methods instead of pharmaceutical ones. Here are some examples of natural acne remedies.

When going to a natural practitioner, one of the first things that he will tell you is that ?it’s what’s inside that count?. That?s the main difference with traditional dermatologist, they will tell you that what you eat has no effect on your skin. But the truth is that a healthy diet can have positive effects on your skin, as well as in your life in general.

Some of the guidelines you may follow are:

-	Drink six glasses of water a day.

-	Try to find organic produce.

-	Eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables.

-	Boil you food and avoid fried foods.

- Eat fiber rich foods such as lentils and beans.

-	Go light on the caffeine, only two cups of tea or coffee a day.

-	Stay away from sodas they have too much sugar and caffeine.

If you still want to intake some extra diet supplements, here are some supplement suggestions.

-	A good daily multi vitamin.

-	Vitamin C.

-	Antioxidants blend of A, C, E, zinc, selenium.

-	A fatty acid supplement such as primrose oil or fish oil.

In any case, it is always better to talk with a qualified nutritionist to help you with deciding what supplements you should take.

When cleaning your skin daily, you may have a routine that includes washing and moisturizing with the best natural products. Have a facial monthly. This will help keep your skin healthy and glowing. Your aesthetician will help you to identify your skin type and make recommendations about cleansers and moisturizers.

This facial routine should include an exfoliation once or twice a week, depending on your type of skin. And, if you suffer from acne as an adult you will still need to keep your skin moisturized. Make sure that you use an SPF on your skin everyday.

There are no miracle treatments for Acne problem, but having a good cleaning routine and a healthy lifestyle will help. And when you choose the best product to treat Acne, have in mind that no matter witch treatment you choose, you may wait at least 6 to 8 weeks to see results.

Adaplene is retinoid, derivative of Vitamin A. It is believed that Adaplene works by stopping the acne forming under the skin surface. Adaplene does not cure acne but controls it. Adaplene is available in liquid, gel or cream and is to be applied to acne prone skin and acne affected skin.. In the beginning many users find acne getting worse. That should not worry the user. Keep using Adaplene and slowly the acne will clear. It takes about two to three months for acne to clear up with Adaplene usage.Adaplene should not be applied to skin affected with eczema. If you have skin affected by sunburn, or broken or cut, do not use Adaplene unless the skin is healed. If you are using any other skincare product, your doctor should be informed. Many skin care products may irritate the skin if used with Adaplene. Products that contain Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Sulphur, Salicylic Acid, Resorcinol, Alcohol are some that have to be avoided. It is always better to discuss about cosmetics you may be using with your doctor as some of them may contain something that may cause irritation if used with Adaplene..

Adaplene may cause some side effects in the beginning. They include- dryness, redness, stinging, scaling and itching etc. If these side effects are severe, inform your doctor. If you are pregnant or plan to get pregnant, you need to tell that to your doctor. For some people it takes time to adjust to the usage of Adaplene. They should use it on alternate day till the skin gets used to the product. Adaplene also increases sensitivity of skin to sun. Use of sunscreen is recommended when you are using Adaplene. Pl. talk to your doctor about any other precautions you need to take.
